Adelante Abroad in Costa Rica

Costa Rica’s capital is located in the center of the country making it a great hub. Overall though, it’s sort of gritty and while there are a few things to see, usually our candidates are getting to the beaches and volcanos each weekend. As befits a capital city, there are plenty of museums from Gold and Jade Museums to Children’s Museums to the famous Museum of Contemporary Art & Design. Do visit the magnificent Teatro Nacional to take in its décor or to see the orchestra if you have the budget. Go here, just outside San Jose, for sure: La Paz Waterfall Gardens.  Don’t forget the Volcanoes! The volcanoes are among the country’s top tourist attractions. Since many are located in national parks you can combine a visit with kayaking, rafting or hiking. Arenal and Irazu are the easiest to get to.  Hit the Rainforest Canopies via zip-line tour, it’s the only way. Seems strange to list Coffee plantations, but the tours will allow you access to parts of the country you couldn’t see otherwise.  We mentioned the beach, the easiest to get to from SJ, via a new, more direct 4 lane highway is Jaco – we predict you will spend many weekends here!  Other beaches could be classified as “better” but the black sand, easy waves, warm temperatures, many “sodas” (cheap, local cafes)  and again, easy access, make this a regular destination for Adelante Abroad candidates.
