Culinary Internships Abroad
Gain International Culinary Experience With an Internship Abroad
Passionate About Food? We Have an Internship for You
Food is one of the most direct ways to understand a culture, and there is no better place to learn it than in a professional kitchen abroad. Working in a culinary environment in another country exposes you to ingredients, techniques, and food traditions that broaden your skills and your palate in ways that are simply not possible at home.
Culinary placements with Adelante Abroad cover a wide range of settings, including restaurants, institutional kitchens, catering companies, and food service operations across Spain and Latin America. Prior experience working in the food industry is helpful, and a low-intermediate level of Spanish is required for most placements.
Culinary internships with Adelante Abroad are available in Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, and Oaxaca, Mexico, with programs running throughout the year.
Why Choose a Culinary Internship Abroad?
An international culinary internship gives you the kind of professional kitchen experience that builds your skills and your story at the same time. Here is why culinary students and food professionals choose to intern abroad with Adelante:

Build your Spanish in a professional kitchen setting
Working in a Spanish-speaking culinary environment develops communication skills that are valuable in kitchens everywhere.
Earn academic credit
Most Adelante interns receive academic credit through their home university, with full documentation support from our team.
What Will You Do as a Culinary Intern Abroad?
Culinary is a broad field, and our placements reflect that. Here is a look at the types of work our culinary interns have taken on across their placements:
Work in Restaurants & Professional Kitchens
Work in restaurant kitchen where the pace is fast and the standards are high. Past interns have worked in a historic luxury restaurant in Barcelona, a busy all-night restaurant in Seville, and an institutional kitchen in Madrid that serves large hotel clients. Each setting offers a distinct and valuable professional experience.
Learn Traditional & Regional Cooking Techniques
Some placements offer the opportunity to learn regional culinary traditions directly from experienced local chefs. In Oaxaca, Mexico, past interns have learned how to prepare traditional Oaxacan dishes, including the region’s celebrated mole, from chefs who have dedicated their careers to preserving and sharing these techniques.
Work in Catering & Food Service Operations
Some interns are placed within catering and food service operations, working with private schools, airlines, wedding and conference caterers, or larger institutional food service departments. These placements give you a broad view of how the food industry operates beyond the restaurant setting.
