Weekend travel is easy and rewarding, with options ranging from the ski resort Portillo and the rustic coastal town of Horcon to the stargazing observatories near La Serena and the rugged landscapes of Patagonia for those with more time to explore.

Most international participants in Adelante’s Chile programs enter the country as tourists and do not require a visa for stays of up to 90 days, depending on their nationality. For programs longer than 90 days, a student or temporary residency visa may be required.
Visa requirements vary by nationality and program length. Adelante provides guidance on visa requirements as part of the pre-departure process, and participants are encouraged to check with the Chilean consulate or embassy in their home country well in advance of their start date.

How the Application Process Works
1. Apply Online
Fill out our simple online application. There is no fee to apply, and it takes only a few minutes to get started.
2. Get on the Calendar
Eligible candidates receive a link to schedule a free, first assessment interview by phone or Google Meet.
3. Interview
We’ll learn about your background, areas of interest, Spanish level, and goals so we can start building the right placement for you.
4. Interview Results
In real time or within 1–2 business days, you will receive your interview results by email. Successful candidates receive an acceptance letter with clear next steps.
5. Confirmation
Confirm your spot within one week of acceptance with a $325 confirmation fee. This means there is no tire-kicking, and you are committed to going abroad. A second interview and full placement details follow soon after.
6. Pre-Departure
Once confirmed, you will receive a comprehensive Pre-Departure Information Packet with everything you need to prepare for your time abroad, including visa guidance if required, along with cultural prep.

Chile FAQs
Is housing included in the price of the program?
Yes – You will have your own room in a shared apartment with other Adelante candidates/international students or you may choose to live with a family in a homestay. The homestay option provides you with true cultural immersion and includes laundry services and two meals per day. Inquire about the price difference for the homestay. If you choose an apartment, plan on doing your own food shopping and your own cooking, quite an eye-opener that first time in a Chilean grocery store! A refundable housing deposit is required during your first week in country. This deposit will be returned to you as long as the housing is in the same condition as when you arrived. The apartments are in sought after, working neighborhoods in Chile, near to public transit. All apartments are fully furnished, with bedding, fully equipped kitchens, washing machine, sheets, towels, pots, pans are also included. All apartments have Wi-Fi.
Do I need to speak Spanish to participate in an internship in Chile?
While previous Spanish knowledge is helpful and required for the majority of our internship programs, it is not always required for our Chile internship programs. Teaching English and social media are the two programs that we offer to beginner Dpanish speakers. Interning abroad in Chile is a great way to improve your Spanish skills while gaining international work experience.
When is the best time to apply for an internship in Chile?
We recommend applying at least 60–90 days before your desired start date for the best chance of securing your preferred placement. Chile internships are available year-round, making it easy to find a time that works for your schedule.
Can I receive academic credit for my internship in Chile?
Yes, many students are able to earn academic credit through their home university while participating in an internship in Chile. We recommend checking with your study abroad office or academic advisor for specific requirements.
Are internships in Chile paid or unpaid?
All of our internships in Chile are unpaid, as they are designed to provide career development and cultural immersion rather than traditional employment. We are not an employment agency and to comply with Chilean labor laws, we do not offer paid internships at this time. The value of our Chile internship programs lie in the international work experience and professional growth gained through the program.
What is the weather like in Chile?
Chile is a country of incredible contrasts, so the climate varies greatly depending on the region. In the program cities of Viña del Mar and Valparaíso, the coast offers a mild, Mediterranean-style climate year-round, making it comfortable to live and explore no matter when you arrive. From the beaches along the coast to the mountains just behind the city, the natural environment around your program location is truly stunning.
Is Chile a safe destination for international students?
Yes, Chile is considered one of the safest countries in South America. Adelante’s program is based in the welcoming communities of Viña del Mar and Valparaíso, and all housing is located in desirable, working neighborhoods with excellent access to public transportation. Upon arrival, you’ll receive a full orientation from Adelante’s on-site staff, who are available to support you throughout your entire program.
Can I extend my internship in Chile?
Adelante offers flexible program lengths ranging from 1 to 6 months, with all programs beginning the first Monday of each month, year-round. If you’re interested in extending your time in Chile, we encourage you to reach out to the Adelante team directly to discuss your options based on availability and program parameters.
Do I need a visa to intern or study in Chile?
Visa requirements depend on your nationality and the length of your program. Adelante accepts candidates of all nationalities, and you are responsible for determining the visa requirements for your home country. For programs longer than 90 days, a student visa may be required. Adelante will guide you through the process and provide the necessary documentation, such as a Letter of Acceptance, to support your application.

How do I intern in Chile through Adelante Abroad?
Getting started is simple. Just submit your online application at no charge. From there, Adelante will schedule an initial assessment interview with a Program Director to determine if the program is a good fit for you. Once accepted, you’ll confirm your spot, complete a second in-depth interview, and Adelante’s local team in Chile will begin matching you with the best internship placement in your chosen field. You’ll know both where you’re living and where you’re interning before you even arrive. The application deadline is 60 to 90 days prior to your chosen start date, though late applications are accepted on a case-by-case basis.

Chile’s program location gives you access to a wealth of experiences. Included excursions during your program feature wine tasting, trekking, walking tours, and visits to national parks. The Casablanca Valley wineries, the ski resort Portillo, and the coastal town of Horcon are all a short ride away. Closer to home, Quinta Vergara park hosts song festivals, summer concerts, and international arts fairs, while the long beachfront boardwalk is a favorite spot year-round.
