Journalism & Media Internships Abroad
Gain Real Journalism and Media Experience with Internships Abroad
Looking for a Journalism or Media Experience Abroad? We Got You!
Journalism and media are fields where the best training comes from being inside a real newsroom, production studio, or editorial team. Working in another country adds a layer of perspective that shapes how you see and tell stories, and that shows in your work long after you come home.
Placements cover a wide range of media environments, including broadcasting, print and online publishing, multimedia production, and copywriting. Past interns have worked at a Spanish-English lifestyle magazine, an online publication for students, local TV stations, 24-hour news channels, game show productions, and multimedia companies producing corporate videos and advertising content. In Barcelona, placements have been available at Dow Jones and Company. These are fast-paced, deadline-oriented environments where prior experience in journalism or media is expected.
Journalism and media internships are available in Spain and Chile. A higher level of Spanish is required for most placements, as interns are often writing, reporting, or producing content in Spanish on a daily basis.
Why Choose a Journalism or Media Internship Abroad?
An international journalism or media internship gives you the kind of professional exposure that is difficult to access as a student in your home country. Here is why journalism and media students choose to intern abroad with Adelante:
Work in a real newsroom or production environment
Journalism and media placements put you inside active, professional settings where deadlines are real and the work is meaningful.
Broaden the range of stories you can tell
Reporting and producing content in another country gives you access to topics, perspectives, and communities that expand your work as a journalist or media professional.
Build your bilingual media skills
Writing, reporting, and producing content in Spanish develops a professional skill set that is increasingly valuable in global and diverse media markets.
Strengthen your portfolio with international work
Content produced abroad adds a distinct and compelling dimension to your professional portfolio that stands out to employers.
Earn academic credit
Most Adelante interns receive academic credit through their home university, with full documentation support from our team.
Prior experience in journalism or media is helpful for most placements, and a higher level of Spanish goes a long way since much of the work involves writing or producing content in Spanish.
What Will You Do as a Journalism or Media Intern Abroad?
Journalism and media is a broad field, and our placements reflect that. Here is a look at the types of work our journalism and media interns have taken on across their placements:
Work in Print and Online Publishing
Some placements involve working within print or online publications, contributing articles, attending and reporting on live events, conducting interviews, and participating in editorial team brainstorming sessions. All written work is produced under the guidance of a supervisor or editor. Past interns have worked at a Spanish-English lifestyle magazine and an online publication aimed at students.
Work in Broadcasting and Television
Broadcasting placements involve working at local TV stations, 24-hour news channels, or game show productions. In game show placements, past interns have supported audience coordination and guest preparation as part of the production team’s day-to-day operations.
Work in Multimedia and Corporate Production
In Madrid, some placements are within multimedia companies offering audiovisual services for advertising and corporate production. Interns are exposed to all aspects of producing TV programs, corporate videos, and advertising content, including scriptwriting, photography, illumination, broadcasting, technical assistance, shooting, editing, and post-production.
Work in Copywriting and Content Creation
With SEO playing an increasingly important role across industries, copywriters and content creators are in high demand. Some placements focus specifically on content creation and copywriting, giving interns practical experience producing written content for digital platforms in a professional setting.
