ACCOUNTING / FINANCE
Candidates here will engage in accounting duties, such as: databases, inputting expenses and payments (A/R), billing, banking, financial procedures, budgeting. Accounting studies and / or experience are required. Sectors run the gamut from non-profits to government run schools to privately owned, Spanish run companies.
ART GALLERY
Interns work at a gallery located in the historic center of Seville, right on a small plaza (fountain included!) A contemporary space, opened in 2007, that features multiple artists, both from Andalucia and abroad. Their goal is to exhibit and promote the work of Spanish artists with a view towards internationalization and young emerging artists dedicated to “newer tendencies within modern art”. They have ongoing exhibitions of over a dozen artists and host art and artist expos both in Spain and in the USA and other parts of Europe.
EDUCATION / TEACHING
This sector is the most developed here in Seville, with a large variety of internship offerings. Candidates interested in the linguistics, language acquisition or other aspects of language can collaborate as language specialists in the ESOL (English as a Second Language) classroom for Spanish adults or for children, developing instructive lessons / new ideas for learning, designing materials, creating new activities that will be used during classes, both theoretical and practical, and providing instructional support for learners in need (those with either above average or below average proficiency.) Work in both the public sector and private institutes / corporations.
NEW Opportunities available in semi-private schools with students age 3 - 18, or at a private language school offering language instruction in a variety of languages to Spanish students.
NEW Web design position at a prestigious university - assist with webpage design and helping in the International Cooperation department (see below for more information).
NEW Events coordinator internship at a semi-private school, with students aged 3-18. Intern will plan and organize various academic and social events.
ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION
Candidates will engage in a range of duties at a local alternative, organic farm dedicated to introducing young students to farming and organic natural products. Duties include assisting the monitors in the educational projects, such as making natural product or other art work, as well as farming activities, ie. animal care, etc. Good for Event Planning, Education and Environmentalist candidates.
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
Interns choosing this option will be placed in a large education center dedicated to both traditional students (primary and secondary) and teacher training. There are a wide range of tasks available for the intern to attend to: coordinating IT in and between the classrooms and administrative office, website design, internal documentation, data-processing, and other duties.
JOURNALISM
NEW Two great journalism opportunities - intern for a free local Spanish language newspaper covering local news and events or for an English language bi-monthly publication covering all aspects of city life, including art, culture, politics and sports. Both positions may include copy editing, information gathering, database organisation, writing reports and articles.
LAW / LEGAL INTERNSHIPS
Intern in a small to medium-sized Spanish law firm in Seville, focusing on immigration rights, Spanish and European civil law or international commerce. Also available is pro bono legal work on integration issues for immigrants into Spain.
LIBRARY SCIENCES
Work in small, local, very involved libraries in Seville, Spain. An excellent work assignment for someone studying this field. Also perfect for candidates looking to improve their Spanish in a setting not so rushed or pressured, and who really want to get involved in the Spanish culture and community.
MARKETING
NEW Marketing opportunities include interning at an English-language publication, a company specialising in immersion into the Spanish culture or a corporation of companies in a variety of fields, including construction, insurance, advertising, engineering, architecture. Responsibilities in all positions may include carrying out market research on customers, analyzing customer needs, making strategic decisions about product design, pricing, promotion, distribution and advertising.
MEDICAL
NEW Participate in medical sessions and work with speech therapists to assist children and elderly patients who require special assistance and treatment at an Audiology Clinic in central Seville. A great opportunity for medical students wishing to gain experience in Spain.
PUBLIC RELATIONS AND MARKETING
Interns placed in this sector will work in a variety of companies and organizations. In some cases the candidate will belong to a specific department usually maintaining and enhancing already existing projects and/or clients, attending to specific client needs or collaborating with clients. In other cases, the objective may be to create and maintain new marketing / ad / PR strategies to attract new clients and/or results. Internship placements will be within private companies, corporations or in non-profit agencies or organizations across many sectors, from education to manufacturing to software companies.
SOCIAL WORK AND PSYCHOLOGY
This sector offers a wide range of opportunities and settings. These placements are generally within the NGO community, serving a range of Spanish and International population. Different areas of focus include, but are not limited to:
- at-risk youth
- battered women
- immigrant rights and settlement
- refugee rights
- gay, lesbian and bi - trans-sexual issues
- drug dependence
- homeless
- AIDS / "SIDA" groups
- "Third generation", older persons care, and many, many more.
These varied and challenging placements prove to be amongst the most rewarding. Candidates from diverse backgrounds are ideal candidates for work in this sector, especially those with an interest in Social Work or Psychology or just seeking to "give back"in Spain.
TOURISM
Spain, a prime holiday destination for travelers throughout the world, has a wealth of opportunities in this sector. Tour guides, travel planning and logistics for international visitors are all included. Candidates choosing this sector are in travel agencies or companies that specifically target the international student community and their needs. They will collaborate in marketing packages and services, address client needs, assist in the logistics of tour groups, promote new products, and more. Some may even have the opportunity to go on the tours to Morocco, and in and around Spain!
TRANSLATION
Work with companies to translate Marketing materials, legal documents, websites , Intranets, curricula and more. Most all of our participating companies need some form of translation work at some point. Proof read texts, research words (Spanish-English and English-Spanish) for the translators; collaborate at conferences and / or translate texts from Spanish into English. Requirements: Advanced Spanish skills.
VIDEO PRODUCTION & EDITING
Interns work in a fast-paced tourism and travel company, producing and editing videos for use as promotional material. A great, fun working environment. Candidates must have some video editing experience and must be familiar with working on Macs.
WEB DESIGN
NEW Intern at a prestigious university in Seville. Design and maintain the website offering assistance and services information to students at a prestigious university in Seville. The site offers information and documentation, legal, academic and social advice, childcare opportunities etc etc.
WOMEN & GENDER ISSUES
Work in a research setting, with a local university professor. Work may involve a variety of projects, including media research. Task lists vary and publications could be associated with the different projects. Conference preparation may be a part of this internship, depending on the time of year. Another option is interning within a non-profit agency setting that assists immigrant women, or under-served women and their various survival issues in a new country.
