BARCELONA, SPAIN- The largest metropolis on the Mediterranean Sea, the capital of Catalonia serves as a tourist, cultural, and economic hot spot while heavily influencing the region’s commerce, entertainment, education, fashion, science, media, and the arts. This makes Barcelona the ideal site for an international internship.
Adelante’s offers unique internship placements at companies looking for an injection of new blood in their respective industry. Internships are 4 hours a day, 5 days a week and can last from 1-6 months. All begin the first Monday of every month.
Upon arrival, you’ll be picked up at the airport and taken to your lodging accommodation located in the most sought after neighborhoods in Barcelona. You’ll have your own room in an apartment with a Spanish owner, sometimes with other Adelante candidates. You also have the option to bring a friend from home to live with you during your time there!
We prepare you by providing two weeks of intensive Spanish language courses prior to beginning your internship. No matter what, we’re confident you’ll come away with a greater understanding of Spanish culture, enhanced Spanish language skills, and professional experience in your intern sector of choice!

ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN

ACCOUNTING: most of our participating companies need Accounting services – so candidates work in everything form Automotive, to Fashion to Import / Export, providing basic CPA and accounting duties. From end of year autids and reporting to more routine accounting duties: databases, inputting expenses and payments (A/R), billing, banking, financial procedures, budgeting.
CONSULTING: This internship will require studies in the field of Law or Economics or Political Science or similar and requires at least a solid intermediate level of Spanish. Duties related to corporate strategies: consulting regarding changes or bettering corporate culture to ensure productivity, helping to set “benchmarks” and make sure they are met, testing of corporate culture, “coaching”. Duties related to corporate Organization: organizational design, analysis and tracking of procedures. Duties related to Marketing: marketing plans, research, relational marketing, satisfaction studies of existing clients. Duties related to investments: auditing, financial advice, fiscal and labor issues.
INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS: The principal job duties in these internships will be to create and execute new business strategies, cultural programs, educational / advocacy programs, new products or services; and to assist in bettering the existing processes. Spain maintains business relations with different European, American, African and Asian countries, which provides an appropriate backdrop to do a variety of things during an internship in this field. Also, the NGO’s (non-governmental organizations) with projects ongoing in third world countries offer a good opportunity to get to know and evaluate distinct economic and social situations.
IMPORT/EXPORT:Logistics and international transport, to include work in document management, airline transportation issues, maritime and over-land transport, including Customs work; warehousing new or incoming or outgoing products and then distributions of these products.
Catering: Food service industry, schools, airlines, weddings, conferences, private catering companies or larger food service departments

LANGUAGES: Candidates interested in the world of languages can participate in internships collaborating in language classes for Spanish adults or for children, creating instructive lessons / new ideas for learning, designing materials, developing new activities that will be used during classes, both theoretical and practical.
STUDY ABROAD/TRAVEL & EXCHANGE: Intern wanted this September to work at a Study Abroad, Travel and Exchange Firm – much like Adelante but in Spain! Great location, lots of work and both languages spoken in the office. 3 month minimum preferred. Some Spanish required.
ENVIRONMENTAL, ECOLOGY, & HORTICULTURE
Ecology: Natural parks / forests, packaging / recycling, pollutions issues

This is a front office favorite here at Adelante HQ – interns do everything from organizing extreme tourism events, to coordinating locals only tours, to helping a boutique Hotel create one of a kind food events for their select clientele. Tabling at Conventions, Wedding or Automotive Fairs and Expos for participating firms; Event Planning and even Student Interchange companies seek our candidates for internships in Spain.
Special Events / Event Planning / Publicity: Promotions, conferences, seminars, organizing and administration, consulting, product launches Requirements: Marketing, imagination, good computer skills, sales skills
Online fashion blogs in Spain are growing and seem to always be needing interns! Candidates must be euro and US fashion savvy, know how to write and also photograph. Also available: intern at a clothing manufacturer, think larger name brands and bigger, more industrial placements, or intern at a Spanish design house that then sends their clothing designs to the larger manufacturer. Online or print fashion magazines take our interns too.

GRAPHIC ARTS: Studios, Printing firms, Graphic Design, Marketing, Logistics
Requirements: Experience in Graphic Design, field of study, good computer skills
GRAPHIC DESIGN: Creation of web pages and promotional materials such as catalogues, brochures, logos, info CD’s, special promos, etc. The intern will be placed in companies that have as their clients other companies who need GD services or also in companies that have a GD department to design their own materials. We also offer internships working for Magazines or local Newspapers under this heading.
These internships include programming and software design, among other things. Maintenance of hardware and ideas to help better internal processes at different corporations / organizations, digitalizing and planning new technical products. Candidates may be placed in IT companies dedicated to creating programs / services for other companies, or en the IT Department of a large company, or in an NGO.
JOURNALISM & MEDIA
Publishing / Press: Book preparation, economic books, text books, catalogues, billing, Library. National, regional, local press, writing, ads / announcements Requirements: Marketing, experience in the sector, good computer skills, persistent
TV – Radio: Local and regional and some national station spots available. Requirements: Past experience in sector, good language skills, good computer skills, and extroverted personality
This sector is often times the most complicated to place in: the actual law firms in Spain require not only a high level of Spanish but also that candidates have taken their LSAT’s and / or are already enrolled in law school. We can and do place in the Municipal Courts in Madrid, in legal departments in companies and in law firms.
Law – Legal: Labor, Criminal, Administrative law. Project and case assistance
Requirements: Law field, LSATs preferred, good computer skills
Interns will work in legendary organizations advocating equal rights for the LGBTQ community, some since as early as 1950. There are older, well established groups, almost political in nature now, and many newer organizations, all working towards educating, advocating and making more visible any and all LGBTQ issues. People have been able to marry who they want in Spain since the turn of this century (2000) so it is a wonderful and accepting place to live for the LGBTQ community and their families.
MARKETING & PR
This internship can take place in distinct firms and organizations. In the larger corporations, the candidate will work in a specific department usually focusing on maintaining and reinforcing the already created projects / clients, attending to specific client and collaboration companies needs. In the smaller organizations and companies the objective may be to create and maintain new marketing / ad / PR strategies to garner new clients / results. The candidates will do their internships in private companies, corporations or in non-profit agencies or organizations.
Communications: Communications Sector to include business in Tourism, the Press, magazines, insurance, automotive, health services Requirements: past experience or internships in sector, good language skills, field of study, creativity, enthusiasm
Event spokesperson / Company Rep: Public Relations, Corporate Fairs / Expos, Product Launches Requirements: Able to speak and be in front of groups, language skills / aptitude, “people person”
Associations / Non-profits: Women’s issues, underserved children, “third age”issues, Immigrant rights groups, Addiction and rehabilitation groups, Employer groups, Downs Syndrome, Gay, Lesbian, Bi/Transsexual assoc, and more.

Political Grassroots Organization: Interns will work in a very busy, deadline oriented political Assembly organization. A regionally focused association whose goal as a civic movement, is to help Catalonia earn its statehood. Duties include editing text for international political websites in the US, Ireland, Canada and Great Britain; supporting the Communications Department including keeping databases updated, media contacts updated and livestream of any speeches or events from Spain updated. Solid writing is a must as well as an ability to adapt the Spanish message to the American or International market, so a good sense of cultural awareness is also a plus. This is a good position for any Poli Sci, Communications, Journalism, Translation or International Business majors.
PSYCHOLOGY & SOCIAL WORK
In this sector we place largely within the NGO’s – these are the larger non-profits that serve a number of groups of the Spanish and International population. Different areas are: at-risk youth, battered women; immigrant rights; refugee rights; gay, lesbian and bi – trans-sexual issues, drug dependence; homeless, and many, many more. These are amazingly diverse and international and quite rewarding placements that fall under both Social Work and Psychology sectors.
SOCIAL MEDIA / MARKETING
Candidates in this internship will be responsible for researching, gathering content and taking photos for several companies that are building their online presence. Websites / Social Media presence may offer unique and valuable information about social venues in Barcelona – i.e. grand openings of bars or nightclubs, beaches, cafés, concerts in the park, plazas. There will be opportunities to participate in marketing initiatives and business development. Or assist an online student housing corporation that works with both universities and individuals to find short and long term housing in Barcelona. This internship is for a specific candidate with a strong independent streak and a good proactive work ethic. Sometimes candidates are asked to bring their own laptop and digital camera and should be familiar with using social media websites and have a keen interest in learning the social scene of the city. Creative writing skills preferred. Beginner speakers welcome in this sector!

TOURISM & HOSPITALITY
HOTEL/HOSPITALITY: Another prestigious and boutique hotel, in arguably one of the top destinations to visit in the world, has joined up with Adelante! This is a newer establishment built to service mostly business travelers, located in one of the premier neighborhoods of Barcelona. They are becoming famous for their service, so training of interns is rigorous. Interns will learn how to work in all areas, including responsibilities for reservations, bookings, check in-outs, restaurant attendance, bar, kitchen functioning, public relations ( the most important!), and guest attendance. Candidates come away with a real understanding of how to run a mid-sized international, business hotel. NOTE: Low Spanish is acceptable!! 2- 4 month requirement.
TOURISM: Spain is one of the counties most receptive, and most successful, in the Tourism industry. We also place in Travel Agents, where candidates help with marketing their products, client services, reservations and more. There are many companies in this sector, including Special Event management firms, Interchange groups (very similar to Adelante but sending Spaniards abroad!), and more.
Under this heading we offer Translation internships, whereby candidates can assist Translation Agencies. There is also a good opportunity to serve as “host” or “hostess” at Conventions, Fairs and Expos for participating firms; Event Planning and other Interchange companies also seek this type of candidate for internships in Spain.
TRANSLATION: Review texts, look up vocabulary (Spanish-English and English-Spanish) for the translators; translate texts from Spanish into English, and/or proofread texts that have been translated by other translators. Requirements: Advanced Spanish skills

Candidates can intern at Veterinary Hospitals, the Zoo, local Animal Shelters or for non-profits fighting to preserve and educate about certain species.
Candidates in this sector have as their main goal either giving back to the communities they are living in while abroad with us, or making a difference in those same communities. In capital cities Barcelona and Madrid, there are dozens of underfunded organizations run by passionate individuals looking to assist, typically, a massively under served population. Come join them! Able bodied, curious, giving volunteers are always in demand.
